During Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, DeadMau5 and Manticore Games announced their new collaboration: Oberhasli, soon available on Manticore’s platform, Core. The game will be a social space where players can attend concerts and engage with DeadMau5’s new releases and tours.

The artist stated that he wanted Oberhasli to keep growing and updating in sync with the real world - “We’ve seen virtual concerts in the past, but after making a splash, they fizzle out; there’s no shelf life to them. With Oberhasli, I want to create a permanent mainstay for the artists’ metaverse, regularly updating it over time, switching things up and keeping it cohesive with real-world news and ancillary events."

DeadMau5 initially teased a VR project last year in an Instagram post bearing the message "Codename #Oberhasli."

In a press release, DeadMau5 stated, "Creating a world like Oberhasli has been a vision of mine for years now, but I quickly discovered how daunting it can be to create a multiplayer experience as a solo developer.” DeadMau5 continued, “The amazing thing about Core is that anyone can jump in and create content regardless of experience or resources.”

Core is a platform that allows users to easily create and share their own multiplayer games, ranging from Battle Royales to racing games. DeadMau5 used the platform earlier this year and asked users to create dystopian worlds for the upcoming "When the Summer Dies" music video. The artist has also confessed to using Core himself, playing a game on the platform called "Mergelandia" for 12 hours straight.

Core is available to download for free through Epic Games and Oberhasli is to release on the platform on the 14th of October 2021.
