As part of the Italian government’s initiative to support Italian culture and art, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published a puzzle game entitled ITALY. Land of Wonders that “will allow players to explore over 100 levels and experience the art, music, culture and architecture of Italy.”
According to a press release, ITALY. Land of Wonders “portrays the beauty and tradition of this country through an interactive and fun experience.”
The player is tasked with helping Elio, an old lighthouse keeper, collect 20 sparks to light up the lighthouse and ensure the sun will continue to shine over Italy. The player will encounter five guardians throughout their journey who represent Nature, Cuisine, Art, Performance and Design - the five main sectors of Italian Cultural Heritage.
Designed to entertain both those already familiar with Italian heritage and those who are not; ITALY. Land of Wonders includes references to the countries mythology and a soundtrack of original scores by the great Italian classics whilst also helping the player improve their grasp of the Italian language and functioning as a travel guide.
“It’s our job to leverage any opportunity we see to promote our country and its culture to the world,” commented Ambassador Lorenzo Angeloni, the Director-General for Cultural and Economic Promotion and Innovation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. “This is why we have embraced the mobile platform and are communicating in a way which is innovative not only for our Ministry, but also for Italy’s public administration in general."
Ambassador Lorenzo Angeloni continued, “We are engaging with a younger audience with ITALY. Land of Wonders and it is our objective to engage people from all over the world and to get them interested in our country and its beauties, creating a sense of familiarity that can guide them, one day, to the actual discovery of our territories and our products.”
ITALY. Land of Wonders launched today (19 July) for iOS and will be coming to android soon, though an exact date is yet to be announced. It is a free-to-play game and is available in 11 languages.
