After the emotional rollercoaster that Friends had us on for ten seasons, the show aired its final episode in 2004. Seventeen years later, the original cast is finally back for a special reunion! As reported by Deadline, it revealed that the Friends Reunion Special - to be aired on HBO Max - will start filming in Los Angeles this week.
The special was to originally air in May 2020 as part of the launch of HBO Max. The reason for the delay was due to COVID-19 and all the according regulations around the world.
All of our favourite and iconic characters are coming back to life, this time with a twist - nothing is scripted! On the Graham Norton Show, David Schwimmer revealed that the Friends cast “would be reading something during the episode, but no specifics were given or even mentioned.” What a way to keep people on edge and excited for it.
The setting will be exactly as you remember; Set in Rachel and Monica’s famous apartment, where we have all laughed, cried and fell in love with the characters. The original actors and actresses will once again reprise their character roles.
According to Deadline’s report, the Friends Reunion Special has been designed to join all 236 episodes together for a single special event. It'll be interesting to see how they'll be able to put this together and make it work. But history shows that creators Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane have always managed to surprise us and put on a good show. This time Ben Winston, along with the creators plus Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, Le Blanc, Perry and Schwimmer, will all be directing the specials, which gives them the chance to put their tweaks into the special.
