CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will be available as a cross-buy title on Xbox. After sharing more details about the upcoming Xbox Series X on Twitter, they responded with the official Cyberpunk 2077 account to said thread.
Gamers should never be forced to purchase the same game twice or pay for upgrades. Owners of #Cyberpunk2077 for Xbox One will receive the Xbox Series X upgrade for free when available. https://t.co/nfkfFLj85w— Cyberpunk 2077 (@CyberpunkGame) February 24, 2020
As stated by the developers, should you buy Cyberpunk 2077 for the Xbox One, you will get a free Xbox Series X upgrade when the game releases for the next generation of consoles. Whether this will be the case for PlayStation gamers also, is currently unknown.
This ties in perfectly with the details posted earlier today by Phil Spencer, confirming that they support cross-buy via their 'Smart Delivery' program, which will be supported by all their exclusive Xbox Game Studios titles. For other developers and publishers, the offer to support this will be there but is not a mandatory feature. Spencer currently states that this is for 'titles that will be released on Xbox One first and are coming to the Xbox Series X later'. There is no clarity whether this will be a supported feature for games that are simultaneously released on both versions of the console systems, allowing players to buy only one copy and play it on both systems. Here's hoping that will be the case as well.
