The long-awaited Half-Life: Alyx is finally getting a release date and we're stoked.
It has been a very long time since a Half-Life game landed on PC and consoles. The last entry was Half-Life 2: Episode 2 in 2007 when the speechless and venerable Gordon Freeman graced our screens.
Wario64 tweeted a telling sign of things to come:
Half-Life series is free-to-play until March 23rd on Steam. Half-Life Alyx releases on March 23rd https://t.co/u9gGcxGMcf pic.twitter.com/gRMpgcJVag

Until Valve announces the date, take this with a pinch of salt; however, Wario64 does tend to be somewhat accurate with predictions, we will have to wait and see.
If you want to catch up with the series before the Half-Life: Alyx lands then make sure to install the games on Steam before the end of this month otherwise you won't get the chance to finish the series before this appears in your library.
Keep in mind that you will have to own a VR device such as the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift or the Valve Index and if you don't then you will need to purchase one of the devices beforehand. Mixed Reality headsets and other systems also are touted as working with the game.
If you are awaiting the restock of the Valve Index, then there is currently no news on availability. This applies to the controllers, headset, base stations and the whole package. If you purchase either of these packages, then Half-Life: Alyx comes free if purchased before release. Unfortunately, there is a massive queue for controller replacements due to joystick drift; this means that Valve is most likely trying to fix the issue before Half-Life: Alyx releases.
Considering that Half-Life: Alyx utilises the Valve controllers' unique features, it should pave the way for a new wave of VR games. Only time will tell to see if Half-Life: Alyx is the killer game and VR seller that everyone has been waiting.
