Sam Raimi in talks to direct 'Doctor Strange 2'

Hopefully adding some Raimi madness.

It was reported by Variety and then confirmed by Deadline that Marvel is currently in talks to close a deal with Sam Raimi to direct the follow-up to Doctor Strange, after the departure from the previous director, Scott Derrickson, who will remain an executive producer. Derrickson left the project as a director due to creative differences earlier this year. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently scheduled to hit theatres on May 7, 2021.

With the sequel announced last year at Comic-Con, we were told that it would be the first "scary" MCU film. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will bring us the return of Benedict Cumberbatch as the Doctor and Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlett Witch, whose own show WandaVision will tie into the sequel to 2016's Doctor Strange, which is slated to be available on Disney+ in December.

Raimi is currently most known for Sony's Spider-Man trilogy (2002-2007), Spartacus, Xena: Warrior Princess and the iconic Evil Dead series. This news makes us excited and we're looking forward to seeing the end result.
