The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S pre-orders were a storm of activity, with fans all over the globe vying for position to get their hands on that black gold. No, not oil - the shiny plastic case of a brand new, next-generation Xbox. However many saw their attempts fail, as the “record-breaking demand” for the new console had it flying off shelves within hours of the pre-order going live.
Microsoft tweeted via the Xbox Twitter account, thanking fans for their dedication and excitement, even as many were left disgruntled from the lack of availability of next-gen consoles.
We are humbled by the record-breaking demand for Xbox Series X and S. Huge thanks to everyone for the excitement. 🙏

If you weren't successful today be sure to sign up with retailers for updates, and expect more consoles to be available on November 10. 💚
In that announcement, Microsoft made it clear that more units would be available for purchase on the release day of November 10th, just two days before the PlayStation 5 is also due for full release.
Some hopeful fans may have fallen foul of Microsoft's somewhat confusing naming conventions when it comes to Xbox consoles. Sales for the Xbox One X, the soon to be last generation offering from Microsoft, went up by a staggering 747% on the day that the Xbox Series X pre-orders launched.
Xbox One X sales rank is up 747% on Amazon lol...

Wonder how many people bought an Xbox One X instead of an Xbox Series X https://t.co/atj4thPwqD pic.twitter.com/CUzRkib3Sr
Might be worth double-checking your order, in case you fell into the trap! Seriously Microsoft, what’s with all the X’s anyway?
